WINTER PHOTO ESSAY: ECOSYSTEM OVERLOAD

I am interested in and by the world, but it is an interest that can oftentimes become consuming. My fascination with nature and with society has been given ample material in Chicago: the city where the skyscrapers meet the sky and brave the winds of the Midwest, where Lake Michigan sits one wave away from the expansive concrete reach of Lake Shore Drive, and where greenery and machinery coexist alongside people who come from all walks of life. Convergences are complex, excess becomes experience, and knowledge comes in numerous forms. Overload.

Because it is Winter, the sky is sometimes still dark when I wake up for school. As I get ready for school by adorning colorful clothes and brushing on my favorite shades of makeup, I watch the world also slowly get more and more colorful...6:45 AM7:00 AM
For about five months, the whole city freezes over -- all of Chicago's green parks are blanketed in soft, white crystalline structures. What once were lush bushes become skeletons of themselves in order to endure the seasons' changing.
