Otto Brown is a senior U-High student. He has served on student council for two years, he is a member of the disciplinary review board and the assembly committee. He is a part of the handbook committee and was a member of the Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS) Committee. He is an active member of the student body which has brought him a reputation.

Throughout my life, I've come to the acceptance that there will always be double standards for women. Myself and many of my female peers have been exposed to a lot of these double standards, finding it unbearable and irritating to deal with them on the daily.

Over time the dance community, especially ballet, has received the reputation of being all white and all female. However, the Hyde Park School of Dance (HPSD) pushes against this stereotype for a wider range of diversity.

After returning from filling my water bottle up at the water fountain I realized one thing: a once engaging conversation about classes, stressful extracurricular activities, and exciting weekend plans has turned to people tapping and scrolling on their phones.

After returning from filling my water bottle up at the water fountain I realized one thing: a once engaging conversation about classes, stressful extracurricular activities, and exciting weekend plans has turned to people tapping and scrolling on their phones.

In my experience, I have always found make up to be a "take it or leave it" tool. As a young girl, it was fascinating and taboo. As a young teenager, it was exciting and mature. Now, it is my mundane morning routine. While it is easier to think about makeup in these isolated terms, makeup actually connects three large parts of social life: consumerism, beauty standards, and personal body image.

In my experience, I have always found make up to be a "take it or leave it" tool. As a young girl, it was fascinating and taboo. As a young teenager, it was exciting and mature. Now, it is my mundane morning routine. While it is easier to think about makeup in these isolated terms, makeup actually connects three large parts of social life: consumerism, beauty standards, and personal body image.

Cuba, while beautiful and lively, presented itself with utter poverty, decaying buildings, and desperate people -- who yet were incredibly friendly and helpful. As my father and I visited the Universidad de la Habana, we came across two professors (not depicted above) who told us of their hardships in Cuba.

Oftentimes, color is used as a descriptor for races; white, black, brown, and yellow have been used as descriptors for a range of ethnicities. I explored the use of terms and concepts like "black criminality," "white trash," "brown voice," and "yellow fever" by having my subjects play with different props and poses that exposed the reductive nature of using the color of a person's skin to target ethnic groups.

Despite living in a heteronormative society where people often believe sexuality and gender identity is black and white, and often represses teens for their differences, these individuals tell stories of finding companionship and comfort in teams, and speak of times where they felt isolated despite the goal of the environment to be bringing people together.

This photo essay shows the work of an amazing artist, Amanda Williams who raises cultural awareness and inspires many through her work. In this specific projected, "The Color(ed) Series", Williams used a color pallet called "cultural signifiers" to repurpose houses with the designated colors.

To encapsulate the biking culture on the South Side of Chicago, Bailey Garb went to Blackstone Bike Works. The founders, Jamel “J.T.” Triggs and Jermell “Melo” Akins, started an after-school program for the underprivileged youth in Chicago.
